Myth of Ama-no-Iwato
Ama-no-Iwato is a cave in Japanese mythology. According to the Kojiki (Records of Ancient Matters), the bad behavior of Susano'o, the Japanese god of storms, drove his sister Amaterasu into the Ama-no-Iwato cave. The land was thus deprived of light.
In order to get Amaterasu out of the cave the other Kami threw a party outside with wisdom of Omoikane. The goddess Ame-no-Uzume-no-Mikoto performed a lewd dance, eliciting laughter. Amaterasu grew curious about the source of amusement and peeked out of the cave entrance. She became fascinated by her own reflection in the Yata no Kagami mirror which the other Kami had crafted and hung before the cave for that purpose, and stood transfixed.
Ame-no-tajikarao then forced the cave open and the world was bathed in light once again. As Amaterasu stepped out of the cave a holy seal was applied to it so that she could never go back into hiding.
The true nature of Nanami and her Purification
The true nature of Nanami is the sun, and the true nature of her smile embodies the "purity" that purifies the filth of the dark night from ancient times, and her true nature is exactly reflected in her "smile". This is depicted by Mizuki, who can see the true nature of things (Vol.22, #130).
(Vol.22, #130) |
The true nature of Nanami's "purification" is to illuminate the darkness with a golden light, warm the hearts of those who freeze in the cold caused by the darkness, and dispel the stagnation of the darkness in the hearts of the people. It is the "light of the sun."
When Tomoe and Kuromaro were purified, they said "it's radiant" and "I can leave with a radiant feeling." These words exactly indicate that they were lit by the light of the "sun" by Nanami.
Nanami affirmed the existence of Kuromaro with honest words of gratitude, as if the sunlight was shining on it, and cleaned up and purified the impurities of Kuromaro that had sunk in the darkness.
As a result, Kuromaro left Yatori, and this cleaned up the dirt brought by Yatori, and at the same time, this also cleaned up the last dirt from the past that was attached to Tomoe.
Okuninushi's self-confidence seemed to be lost because he couldn't get rid of the filth of Kuromaro. By taking on the work left by Kuromaro, Okuninushi eliminates the regrets of Kuromaro and completes the purification of the land.
